Mary has been playing with clay since she was a child. In 1978, after earning a BA in Art with an emphasis in Ceramics from UCSC, Mary opened shop as an independent studio potter at Bluebird Creek Pottery in Santa Cruz, California. She threw pots in her backyard on a traditional kick wheel, and fired her work in a downdraft high-fired gas reduction kiln (Cone 9-10) at the Merrill College Pottery Co-op, which she helped to found, and managed from 1978 to 1986.During that period, she sold her porcelain, carved celadon, and stoneware work at craft fairs as well as through Gumps of San Francisco, and fine arts galleries in Santa Cruz, Carmel, and Murphys, California. Her work resides in private collections in the United States, Japan, and Europe.

These days, Mary derives endless inspiration and fascination exploring the land and seascapes,
and flora and fauna of the Monterey Bay region.

She currently practices her craft in a community studio, using a range of Cone 6 and Cone 10 clays and glazes, in both oxidation and reduction firing environments. Her functional kitchen ware is lead free, non-toxic, dishwasher and microwave safe.
